Learn More About TNVR
TNVR is the most compassionate and effective way to help community cats. By preventing new litters, it reduces overcrowding in shelters and lowers the number of kittens born outdoors. Vaccinating cats protects both feline and human health, while returning them to their territory keeps colonies stable and prevents new cats from moving in. TNVR creates safer, healthier outdoor cat communities and supports long-term population control.

Long Story Short: TNVR Saves Lives.

Learn More About Vaccines
Understanding which and vaccines (and when) your cat needs is an important part of keeping them healthy. The guide below from PetMD provides a simple breakdown of core vaccines, optional vaccines, and recommended schedules to help you make informed decisions about your cat’s care.

Rehoming/Surrendering
If you need to find a new home for your cat, this section offers guidance and resources to help you do so safely and responsibly.
Note: If you adopted a cat from Community Cat Crew and can no longer care for them, we will always welcome them back. Please reach out to us so we can discuss the next steps.
Rehome vs Surrender
Rehome
Rehoming means finding a new home for your cat yourself or with guidance, keeping the cat out of a shelter and often reducing stress. It allows you to screen adopters, share your cat’s personality, and ensure they go to a safe, loving home.
Surrender
Surrendering means giving your cat directly to a shelter or rescue organization. While sometimes necessary, it can be stressful for the cat and may limit your ability to influence their next home. Shelters may also have limited space, which can affect intake options.
Whenever possible, rehoming is recommended as it gives cats a better chance at a smooth, safe transition to their new family.
Rehoming: Steps, Tips, and Resources

Rehoming Platform Options

Rehome with Love offers several services, including a free option that lets pet guardians list their pets with basic support and guidance.

Home-to-Home lets pet owners connect with potential adopters by posting pets in need of a new home.

Adopt-a-Pet provides a straightforward, reliable way to rehome your pet directly from your home to a loving new family.

No-Kill Network helps connect your cat with a loving home while keeping them out of shelters.
1. Make Sure Rehoming Is Necessary
Rehoming is never easy. Before moving forward, see if extra support, behavior help, vet care, or community resources might make it possible for your cat to stay with you.
2. Share Their Story
Create a simple profile that captures who your cat truly is. Include age, personality, medical history, and a few good photos.
3. Start With Your Network
Ask friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors. Safe matches often come from people you know.
4. Use Safe Rehoming Platforms
For trustworthy options, please refer to our curated list of recommended rehoming options, chosen to help connect your cat with responsible adopters.
5. Look for the Right Fit, Not the Fastest
Ask thoughtful questions about potential adopters’ homes, experience, and expectations. Trust your instincts. You should wait for the home that feels right.
6. Introduce Them With Honesty
Share the good, the silly, and the challenging. Being transparent helps ensure your cat’s next home is truly prepared for them.
7. Ask for a Small Fee
It may feel uncomfortable, but a fee shows commitment and protects your cat from unsafe situations.
8. Send Them With Love
A familiar blanket, favorite toy, or a small supply of their usual food can bring comfort as they adjust to their new life.
9. Check In
A simple message or photo update can bring peace of mind and make the transition easier for everyone, including you.
Surrendering: Resources
While surrendering can be the right choice for some situations, shelters often operate at or over capacity, so availability varies. Below, you’ll find a short list of local organizations that accept surrenders and information on how to contact them.

Emergency Temporary Shelter for Pets in Need
When crisis strikes, love shouldn’t be left behind.

Humane Society of West Michigan’s PETS Network program offers short-term foster care (up to 30 days) for pets whose owners are experiencing temporary crises – such as homelessness, domestic violence, hospitalization, or natural disasters. The primary goal of this program is to reunite pets and their owners after 30 days – so pets and their people can stay together long-term.
